Saturday, August 13 - Twin Lakes County Park

Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Peach Plaza Expansion area main parking lot.

Directions: From points east and west, take Route 30 towards Greensburg, turn north onto Sheraton Drive from the Rt. 30 traffic light below the overpass to the Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg. Bear right at the 1st intersection onto Donohoe Road. Follow the road to the right past Toys-R-Us. Continue straight ahead through a traffic light. At the next stop sign, turn left onto Georges Station Road. Follow for about 0.5 miles and turn right onto Streetpark Loop. Follow this road past the play areas and amphitheater and park in the lot past the deck hockey rink. The address for the Peach Plaza Expansion Area is: 333 Streetpark Loop, Hempfield Twp, PA 15601.

Description: We will be supporting the Westmoreland Land Trust as we hike and tour the Peach Plaza Expansion Area at Twin Lakes. This is a newer day use section with areas of woodlands and flowering meadows. We will do bird and butterfly counts as well as noting any interesting flora. We might even spot something special at the kestrel box. Time (and energy) permitting, we can continue on to the main park and walk the 0.9 mile upper lake loop. As a major county park, there is plenty of parking and modern restrooms. We can brown-bag a lunch as we recount the day’s totals. There are convenient grassy paths cut through the property, but also some hills to negotiate
