Leader: Denny McCarthy  dennymccarthy@comcast.net, 412-913-9064

Directions: Address is 1795 Route 381, Rector, PA, 15677.  From Ligonier, PA, take Rte. 711 south 3.3 miles to the Rector/Darlington intersection.  Turn left toward Rector and go 1 mile.  At the bottom of the hill, before going over the bridge, turn right onto Rte. 381 South.  Follow Rte. 381 south for 3.3 miles to the Nature Reserve HQ Building on your left.

Description: The Powdermill site is known for its incredible diversity of birds that stop over during spring and fall migrations, having been designated as Important Bird Area #24.  We will walk the surrounding trails in this early fall trip.  There is also a nature center at this building for a potential visit.  Should there be an Open House scheduled at the neighboring Powdermill Avian Research Center (PARC), we can tour it with the general public and participate in their intriguing Bird Banding Demo.  Members will be notified via email if and when that schedule is confirmed.  There is also a picnic area for a post hike brown-bag lunch.
