Directions: Ethyl Springs Lake address is 390 Traction Avenue, Derry, PA 15627.  Take route 217 from Rt 30 into Derry.  After crossing the bridge in town, stay on 217 through the next light and then turn left onto N. Chestnut Street.  As you approach the lake, look for the Ethyl Springs Lake parking lot on your left between 2 houses.  Next, to get to Latrobe Reservoir, return to Rt 30 and continue east.  In about 5 miles, turn left on Rt 259 N and continue 2.2 miles and turn left on Austraw road.  Drive to the top of the hill and pull over onto the left berm.

Description:  Being close to Chestnut Ridge, Ethyl Springs reservoir often attracts migrating waterfowl and huge rafts of ducks and geese in the spring and fall.  Many unusual birds have been seen here.  We will walk the jogging trail around this 30-acre lake.  Next, we will proceed to the Latrobe Reservoir.  Since this is private property, we will view from the left berm at the summit of Austraw Road where waterfowl, shorebirds and waders mostly congregate. I’m sure some members will bring their spotting scopes to share.
